About the artist
I work under the name KUMO, a British Sudanese artist whose practice is rooted in graffiti and street based visual culture. Graffiti shaped my way of seeing and making, teaching me how to communicate through movement, line and presence. That influence continues to inform my illustration and character led work, where expressive mark making and rhythm play a central role.
My work explores identity as something fluid, layered, often through figures that feel both personal and open ended. I create visual moments that invite interpretation, allowing mood and gesture to carry meaning.
Drawing from my British Sudanese background, I’m interested in hybridity and visibility, and how bodies and symbols occupy space. My practice sits between the immediacy of graffiti and the intimacy of illustration, creating work that feels lived in, reflective, and quietly assertive.
